About CMsci

Claremont McKenna Science (CMsci) is a student-run research organization at Claremont McKenna College, founded in 2025. Undergraduates lead real research projects with guidance from CMC faculty.

Research led by students, guided by faculty.

CMsci exists so CMC students can do research that matters before graduate school. Each team designs its own question, builds its own methods, and runs its own experiments.

Faculty advisors guide the science. Students own the work, from the first literature review to the final presentation at the CMsci Symposium.

Meet the teams

Every project follows the same pipeline

A shared, stage-gated process means the quality of the research doesn’t depend on who leads a team in a given year. Each stage ends with faculty sign-off.

Stage 1

Team formation

Managers are hired first, scope a question with the faculty advisor, then recruit analysts.

Stage 2

Literature review

The team breaks the question into parts and writes a review the advisor approves.

Stage 3

Build and test

Analysts design the experiments, build what’s needed, and collect the data.

Stage 4

CMsci Symposium

Teams write up their findings and present them to faculty and the CMC community.
